Pretty, nice job!

Late for the parade.


Photo of local rugby team framed in a simple black frame to match existing collection in the village community hall.

Photo mounted in nice thick white mount with a bit of bottom weighting.
Bought it in from Justintime.
Frame made from some off-cuts of tulip wood, sized through the rip-saw to make optimum proportions.
Wood stained with two coats of Van Dyke crystals.
Then given two coats of black shellac followed by a top coat of clear shellac.
Finally, two coats of pure bee's wax, polished to a high shine - then dulled to a satin lustre.

Being in the same town as the constabulary HQ we get our fair share of police display boxes to do but this one had a few more epaulettes than usual. The Chief no less!! As always the budget was minimal and sadly this one went out without artglass was almost tempted to take the hit and put it in anyway!

Bamboo mouldings seem to go in and out of fashion. We got the chevron set from Lion PFS having seen it on one of our trips up there last year. Customer fell in love with it for a few pieces - including this memento of their honeymoon trip to Egypt. We used the large gold version, the artwork is attached using a raised/platform float method. We followed the flow of the pattern around each corner as best we could.

Artwork is covered in glitter(!!!) and glows in the dark.

Hi Dave

One of those things with multiple names, depending who you talk to. Raised float, platform or pedestal.

Essentially hinged around a board slightly smaller than the artwork, a bit like a hedgehog method but I adapt it slightly when doing a raised version (just my preferred method) but still with tighter support/anchor hinges along the top, positioning hinges to allow a bit of movement down the sides and along the bottom. Then that board bonded to foam board or similar to raise it off the mountboard surface. This one was raised on 5mm foam board.

This is one I did a few months ago. It’s a collection of Victorian and Edwardian calling cards that I picked up at an antique fair for £20.

It hangs in my downstairs loo!

It’s a cmc cut textured mount that has been painted (inc the bevels) with acrylic paint and then waxed with black patinating wax.

The frame is hand finished using green and black milk paint, with a wax finish.

Fruitini - perfect display of the objects framed.
The frame in no way distracts from the presentation. So simple yet so right.

Tudor Rose - a beautiful example of harmony between the frame and its contents. What it's all about.

Gesso and Bole - THE DBs (canine testicles). No further comment needed.

That painted mount is great, I've got a job to do for myself & now that I've seen that impressive bit of work I'm going to replicate it

Thanks for the compliment.

Process as follows

1 choose a textured mount and cut as normal
2 use 2 different acrylic colours and do 2 coats (this one was 2 similar shades of brown - this gives the finish more depth ) painted in such a way as to add some more texture, and dried with hot air gun in between.
3 apply black patinating wax with a brush (it looks solid black at this stage)
4 clean off patinating wax with clear wax this should be done within 30 minutes or it will be hard work. Use kitchen towels and keep moving to a clean part of the towel so you are removing black not smearing it in.
5 once you have removed enough black to get the effect you want, polish the clear wax, and then add a second coat and polish again.

Beware black wax gets everywhere if you are not careful so clean the bench carefully afterwards and use a barrier mount underneath if you don’t want wax on the artwork

One of those Spanish market art posters.
My wife is a paper-cut artist, so she cut marijuana leaf stencils and sponged them on. With hindsight I'd have gone with a brown base colour for the frame, but the Gen Z customer was thrilled with the result. The poster was mounted and laminated in the Hotpress, keeping the original matt finish of the poster, no glass required. The laminate has a 99% UV filter and is wipeable, perfect for her student house!

Definitely had too much time on my hands this week, so I finally got around to framing a Penny Black stamp that was my pride and joy aged 11. (I have since replaced it in my collection with a decent example, but this one has huge sentimental value to me).

As a framer and a stamp collector I have had various attempts at framing stamps over the years, but failed to achieve anything visually attractive enough to appeal to non stamp collectors. (Or put simply, that I would be allowed to hang on the wall).

Hopefully this time I will be able to hang it!

This is done with a hand finished mount, designed to mimic the stamp itself.

The letters were a security device, and relate to the position of the individual stamp on the printed sheet.

If you win your bid, you know where you can get it framed!
