That's a great start to a Friday

Bit of a challenge this week. Beautiful triptych on ply by a lovely French artist. She loves deep skinny frames which on something 1400mm tall can pose a headache or two. We’ve used R&H A354 in oak (9mm face x 33mm deep) and given support with LJ subframe 596500000. Joining this oak moulding can be tricky but thanks to @fusionframers kind loan of a pneumatic headless pinner it made joining these a breeze. Also using the subframe allows the client to easily hang using the French cleat design.

Those look really good. I like 354 oak a lot, but it is a bit tricky to join without a Hoffman.

Slack week here, so I'm jumping in early.
Last week I dropped in on Vintageframes, who is working on tidying up a customer's auction bought frame (separate post), with the canvas to do a final check and make a slip from scratch.
This is the Master at his Spindle Moulder.

Sadly my wife has decided to step back from the hand finishing, just as she proclaims "I'm damn good at this!" Makes no sense, but happy wife....

Lovely Jim. Cutting out that corner piece, do you use a sled on a table saw or by hand?

A couple of excellent pieces today - Jim & Justin, love the rounded corners, here’s my contribution.

These are part of an RAF set using a lot of different mounting techniques. Some of these jobs can be quite deep so I like to break the depth up with various layers and spacers. Originally I had a white spacer under the glass but it looked too bright against the off white mount, I tried black the other standard colour – too dark so I painted a raw spacer RAF blue.

Beautiful work David. That spacer colour is perfect, it really pulls the pieces together.

Done for the very trendy hairdressers next door but one to our shop.

This is one for our wall next to the design desk. We sell a good number of Frinton Frames every year and customers love the flexibility they offer to change decorative elements or colour. We decided to create a wall example to (hopefully) act as a great advert for selling even more of them!

We chose a William Morris London Transport poster reprint, original from 1934. Love the colour and style with the frame, with the modern twist of the mirror slip which was a Nielsen moulding that we trimmed down in height a bit.

I’m sure it won’t be to everyone’s taste - but it looks great on our wall of framing examples.

I've not used a Frinton frame for a while now - is there enough rebate depth, or did you have to build out the back?

Even with trimming down the height of the Nielsen moulding, we did get them to build out the back as well.

This is all I've managed to photograph this week.
An oil on ply, still a bit wet, needed for the Birthday party that I'm going to tomorrow...
So I stepped up.

If it's useful..
Frogtape green tape (homebase) is for masking unfinished wood. Burnished on the face worked perfectly. 4mm hardboard backing.
The work was dropped off at around 11.30 this morning. Thanks to rapid drying between coats with the heat gun, it was fitted and wrapped by 5.30pm. This process would normally be spread over a few days. It looks black in the photos but it's F&B Hague Blue. Not on the colour chart any more but still available in West Wales apparently.

Nice job! Not sure what colour cards are doing the rounds in West Wales but Hague Blue is definitely still on the latest release! A best seller for us in a dark colour.

My painted contribution for this week on a firm favourite R&H spoon moulding A219. We have also masked off the flat sections and painted in contrasting Paint Library colours that set off these child life studies off really well.

Two superb examples of really creative framing.
I love the way you've 'floated' that painting, Justin.
Fruitini's work is so simple and so perfect. It shows handfinishing doesn't have to be a huge faff.

Both examples work by presenting the art in a truly complementary fashion and not to be distracting by being too fussy or inappropriate.
