Er, do these go under or over the glass?

Before I get it the wrong way round......

Re-framing an old embroidery that had linen slips but no glass. The customer wants it re-framed in a similar way with new slips but now glazed, and I am wondering how to put it all together. They are letting me do whatever I think is needed.

The embroidery is rather 'domed' in the middle so I need to put a small spacer in somewhere I think to stop it touching the glass. But where?

This is what they want, the rest is up to me (nothing is fixed or finished so don't look too closely, just testing it out!)

Put the glass between the two frames.

Can it lay directly on the linen or will it need a spacer?

Yes, sandwiched between frame and slip - no need to space glass from linen slip, the slip is the spacer, assuming it's deep enough.

I think the stitching may still touch the glass so I will do a dry run and see how it lies, or if I need to space it away a tad more.

Glad the customer has seen the light and wants glass.

Explain the issue and ask if maybe using less/lighter wadding is possible for future jobs.

A good shout although in this case though, the maker is no longer with us.

It was somebody's granny and framed originally by the grandad in the 80s I think, so I am being as sensitive as I can to the original. I do love this kind of project.
