Waxing Lyrical

I've always enjoyed table quizzes, especially the music rounds. Been mulling for a while about kicking off a lyrics quiz thread, so having been inspired by a current thread about opening lines on the Grumble, I thought I'd test the waters.

Below are some lyric snippets (tried to keep it fairly mainstream for openers, but obscure's fun, too). Name that toon (artist, too, if possible)! :)

- My Girl Friday, she no square

- Way down the street, there's a light in his place

- Folks hopin' you'd turn out cool, but they had to take you outta school

- And I'm wond'ring how I'll get down the stairs

- Does your cistern still leak?

- Can I take you to a restaurant that's got glass tables?

- Her hair is Harlowe gold

- No dark sarcasm in the classroom

- Love is so confusing, there's no peace of mind

- I wasn't looking, but somehow you found me

- She got the Mercedes bends

- All the teachers in the pub passing round the ready-rubbed

- Well I've run out of pale ale, and I feel like I'm in jail
(And the cat's just finished off the bread)

Great idea. :D Lyrics can be disceptive when they are written down.

I can only get four:

2] Baker Street

3] Angie Baby.

4] Stuck in the middle.

8] Another brick in the wall.

7] maybe.... She's got Bette Davis Eyes.

Stand by for some stonkers.

At a quick glance before I turn in, the only 2 I didn't have to think about.

Stuck in The Middle With You - Stealers Wheel (Timeless)

Another Brick In The wall - Pink Floyd.

So - do I get two go's? Oh Goody!

1. Bring all your bundles of rags and reminders and spread your wealth on the ground.

2. So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine.

(Edit - dang - Prospero beat me to it and got more too - but he didn't name the artists - so there)

1. Meet Me On The Corner - Lindisfarne

Recognise the other one, but can't put the proverbial digit on it... yet!

My resolve was weak, and I'm not sorry. Such a great song, and so very long since I heard it (I'd have done the bow tie line, fwiw...) :D

Memory: meself and a few mates used to sing these songs (in harmony) during biology lessons. Mr Botting used to despair of us, but never gave out to us. :)

----
Here's one with my name on it...

- You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorrie contemplating a crime

So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine.
#...And the moon rose over an open field.# :D

Kathy's Song. Now what was the name of the artists.... There was a tall one with a head like a lightbulb and one very short. :P

OK Chew on these: :?

1] Oh dont lean on me man, cause you cant afford the ticket,

2] Fashionable country gentlemen had some cultivated wild gardens

3] Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams

4] I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky

5] Silver wings silhouetted against a childs sunrise

6] And everything is green and submarine

7] You float my new pool, De luxe and delightful..

8] When I called you last night from Glasgow

9] They dont give a damn about any trumpet playing band

10] I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping

11] I hope they finally fixed your automobile

12] While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

===============================================

Oh and #9 in the Moglist is Heart of Glass.

(back from) Suffragette City (although I took it as 'don't lay it on me man'... :? )

2] Fashionable country gentlemen had some cultivated wild gardens

Return of the Giant Hogweed (lemon squeezy - I can even do the wibbly vocals! )

9] They dont give a damn about any trumpet playing band

(They are the) Sultans of Swing.

11] I hope they finally fixed your automobile

(Shouldn'ta got on) This Flight Tonight (all-time top 50 there! 8) )
Mulling over the rest. But the obscure gauntlet has been taken up!  :D

Given the ones you got from my first blast, I'm surpirsed you didn't get more: there were only a couple that were oddies, the rest were all hits (one or two more 'turntable' than 'chart' perhaps... :? ).

3] Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams

It's Zepp, but can't pinpoint the track. (Must admit that, like others, I'm not as hot on Zepp as I am on the lyrics of some of their contemporaries...Image)

" ... Glasgow...."

5. I've changed my face, I've changed my name

6. We didn't have much time

7. Oh I'm so worried about my man

8. My Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa

9. The president is on the line

10. A man in the dark in a picture frame
