Looking for a company to make quantities of frames

Post by boscawen46 »

Hi,
As per title I'm looking for a someone/company to make me largish quantities of frames for a reasonable price.
These would be from Polycore with acrylic glass.
Standard size 12 x 10 inch and 10 X 8 inch.
Must be well made with good strong corners.
Thanks

I'd be interested to know more about your budget, quantity and timescales for this piece of work.

In response to questions asked.
I use Polycore because the mouldings I use are popular with customers. I make quite a few myself and they work out well using that material. More reasonably priced than wood as well.

Quantities would be around 1000 two or three times a year.

Would always give plenty of notice to make them .

At moment paying about £3.00 each to have made.including materials ( frame, styrene glass, MDF back and hanger.

Also would want mounts cut 12 x 10 inch in a mount board from DJ Simons.
Thanks

I seriously do not think that you can beat that price.

At that price you need speed, which equates to expensive production machinery, and staff, and buying power.

That type of price will probably be only imported from the Far East. The factory will have to have automated equipment that can make a finished frame with glazing and hardware. This is the type of company that would make frames for Ikea as an example.

Note that using polystyrene foam moulding might be a problem with strength as there is no glue in this process.

Hi
I am paying around £3.00 at moment and the quality is good but the company I'm using is diversifying into other things. I'm not looking for better price , just to match.
I have used Polycore moulding myself for over 5 years, it is perfectly strong enough and put a dab of glue on each corner. Once made just as strong and stable as wood
The workshop/company that I use at moment is not massive but efficient.
Thanks

"... quality is good but the company I'm using is diversifying into other things"

Is that a secret code that they cannot make a profit on this project? It might be. Your economic inflation in the UK is not stagnant.

Is this company also gluing the frames together, or just what you personally make?

They're not glueing the corners but I've used this company for over five years. Never had a problem with quality or strength. No returns or problems with my customers.
I'm simply asking anyone out there if they are able to make frames in bulk.
Thanks

As you don’t seem to be getting any leads on here, it might be worth contacting the moulding supplier (I’m assuming Mainline) and asking them if they have any contacts who could help you. They’re far more likely to have knowledge of a framing business with the kind of set up you’re after.

If that £3.00 rate has been the same price for several years, my second comment is even more a possibility, there is no profit at that price.

Please let all of us know what the outcome of your search is for a UK based supplier.

Good evening,

We comfortably make about 600 frames a day and focus primarily on high volume polecore.

Are you just looking to have these made in pol-1024? Do you need face papers and corners?

I saw you’re looking for a £3 figure, we could do this providing the volume was there.
