I've got a relief map in which is going to go in a tray frame. I then decided to buy a map to frame as a present so I have a chance to practice first.

Looking through the searches on here, and a current thread on the Grumble, it seems the easiest way is to stick down the edges.

Can I just check though, should I be sticking it to a board first? Or direct to the frame?

I've seen tapestry tape, foam tape and self adhesive board mentioned. None of which I have so I will need to buy something . Which is the general consensus? I don't suppose Araldite or silicon adhesive would work (I have lots of both already).

I framed it without a back as it looks cool from behind so the person could lift it off to show people the back.
I don't think I would use araldite or silicone in case they react to the map material.
From memory I used normal double-sided tape but it wasn't strong enough so I used tapestry tape which is the strongest double-sided tape I have.

Thank you. Tapestry tape was mentioned a couple of times so I will get some of that.

Would maybe go for double-sided Foam tape. I once stuck a four-gang flying power socket to a Hi-Fi cabinet
and about 20 years later I could not pull it off. Had to slip a knife in and cut/saw it. Also it was the preferred
way of fixing solenoids the remote-controlled model aircraft. It you crash (I I often did) the plane can get completely
smashed up but the solenoids remain firmly stuck. As it is spongy it has a bit of 'give' so tends to absorb shocks.
You don't need big strips of it. A few well-placed tabs should do. Press it down firmly.

I'd apply the same principles for sticking anything together, double mounts, rebate spacers etc, and that is just a bit of self adhesive - say one small dab each side, to hold while the more reliable wet adhesive dries. This also allows much easier repositioning if you don't get it right first time. I'd say you already have what you need.

I think John was talking generally about his use of adhesives rather than specifically about this job.
