Hi Everyone,
I've just joined the forum and this is my first post.
I'm just getting set up with a studio and with some of the fundamental equipment here in Newcastle, UK.
I've acquired a second hand Cassese CS88 underpinner. My question is...is there anyone in the UK who can service underpinners? This one is clearly a bit old and needs a little work.
Does anyone know if such a service exists?
Thanks
Rob

Plenty of servicers out there but the CS88 is a pretty straightforward bit of kit. Most of them would probably be happy to supply you with a service kit and offer advice over the phone. If you don't already have a manual for it, there's a link to it in the forum somewhere.
I'd start by contacting Mark at underpinner-spares. Co. Uk

I do need to spend a bit more time mucking on with it, but thought it could be useful if there were any experts, and the details you've referred to me to sound ideal.
This is a great start, thanks Justin.

No problem. If you were to travel to a service, pay for labour and parts you'd probably be looking at close to what they go for on ebay. Much better to print out a manual and have a set of metric Allan keys. I would recommend buying a service kit now, as they won't be available forever. I gave mine a clean down, checked all moving parts on the top were functioning correctly. I would say that the most important thing to do is take out the block that holds the hammer(?), open it up, carefully take out the hammer, remove all the old grease and dirt til it's clean, relube with grease, replace hammer and refit (See manual). Other than that it's mostly just the cables that wear out. As parts are becoming scarce now, I wouldn't change any parts until necessary!

I think you may right with this one. I was looking at the unit again yesterday after you initially messaged, and the one area I think I need to overhaul is the hammer, as you well suggest.
Appreciate your help, Justin. I'll be coming to you with more queries in future!
