Aluminium box frame

Post by photech54 »

Hi,

Looking for some advise please.

I've had a client ask for an aluminium brushed silver box frame, where the glass and backing are seperated by a spacer.

I've made plenty of wooden box style frames, but never an aluminium one.

Not sure how I'd fit a space in an aluminium frame, anybody got any ideas?

Nielsen do a box frame (https://www.nielsen-design.de/en-EN/pro ... /frame-box) but this only comes in one size, which isn't going to help me.

Anybody know of any other supplier of aluminium box frames that come in custom sizes?

Here's hoping!!!

There used to be a deep Nielsen one but I haven't seen it for many a long year.

Here’s the Nielsen catalogue, look at aluminium profile 222 with matching spacer 223

You can make your own spacers but would need to stick them to the glass, not the rebate, which is fine, that’s how econospace works.

It depends how deep you want to go. This is a method I used for deep box frames with an Ali frame. It also means you can put very thin frames on large pictures because the timber frame and box is the main strength of the construction, the actual frame is a bit of decoration on the front.
