Hi All,
I'm just working my way around an Ultimat Futura, and was wondering if any of you could help with this schoolboy issue...
On a 1mm card, I'm using a Tech D 012 blade, which is in line with guidance in the manual.
However, two things are happening:
1. the visible "overcut" you see on the surface is greater than I'd hope;
2. the blade isn't reaching far enough to the surface to make the full cut.
So, it's like a dual issue whereby both overcutting and undercutting are happening with different outcomes.
This is quite hard to describe so I've tried to show it on this photo.
What am I doing wrong?
Should I be adjusting the blade using the turning screw in the blade holder, or something amiss elsewhere?

I don't have a futura but I have the Ultimat Gold which I gather is similar.
A few questions first:
Is your card actually 1mm as most mountboard is 1.4mm?
Is it a new machine, new problem?
Basically you need to adjust the stops, although if they are set for 1.4mm mountboard and you're using thinner card that will cause issues.

I’ve never heard of 1mm mount board, not as in window mounts and a choice of colours.
Do you have the manual?

Overcuts and undercuts.
It's all about practice - practice - practice of your start(insert the blade) and stop(release the blade from cutting).
For undercuts you can insert an old fashioned double edge razor blade into the cut to to the last 1 mm or less cutting. They are much thinner than the mat cutting blades.

Hi, on each stop, top and bottom, there are small round adjusting knobs to extend or reduce the cut. If it is under cutting you need to extend the cut so turn the knob in the + direction to reduce an overcut turn towards the -. There is a video on the Keencut website.

Check out the other videos, if the link does not work search Keencut masterclass video.
Don't forget to reset the stops to the correct dimension once you have adjusted the stop.
Good luck, enjoy, brilliant bit of kit but I'm biased.
David.

It’s best to watch the video, or actually RTFM and familiarise yourself with the machine, because it really is a very simple one!
Its not just a case of turning a knob plus or minus, you then have to move the stop to that new position, but the question still remains …. Why are you using 1mm thick boards for window mounts? It’s not a thing

Thanks for responses.
After posting this, I discovered how we can alter the overcoat and undercut knobs, as David says. I made some adjustments that saw an improvement but I'm still working to get the ideal.
I also did quite a bit of adjusting and playing about, as Jerome's recommendation - time well spent and useful for getting to know around the machine.
As for the mount board thickness, I must be showing my amateurishness. I just measured the board I had in profile. Maybe it is actually 1.4mm. What are the typical board thicknesses in general then?
