Price check multiple order

Post by girlfromkent »

Hi All

Just comparing a couple of my prices to FRAMR (which I don't currently use) and think I might be undercharging.

Can I get a feel for what you'd be charging for
525x695 glass size
Double Hayseed 8065 mount
Lion ash L001 (approx £3/m +VAT)
Artglass 92
...On an individual basis, and then how much if there were 20?

Also,
840 x 650 glass size
L1647 black ash with A133 spacers
Heavy charcoal on paper float mounted over conservation foam
Onyx black mount
Artglass 70

Thanks!
Megan

Hi Megan

This kind of post usually gets a better response if you post the prices up too.

Many of us found we were undercharging when we started using pricing software. Particularly if you've gone from a multiplication of material costs only, onto a software that includes labour charges as well as those material costs.

If we are doing 20 identical items for a customer then we would consider a discount on the individual price - but that discount value would be based on our relationship with that customer and likely future work.

Hi, answering across your 2 posts, if the price in the software is higher than you are actually paying then you would be overcharging?
I price all my work from the 'normal' trade price, any discounts are for my benefit.
In the quote for 20 frames I would look at buying it all on chop from Lion (when back in stock) for that number I would try for a discount and calculate from there
I like to know what I'm paying to the penny but with framing a lot goes out of the window depending on how accurate you have waste set as :|

Hi Megan,
525x695 I'd be around £265
840x650 I'd be around £350
I can't help on the multiples as it's not part of my business model atm (and I'm not getting asked for it.)
One word of caution, from when I did do bulk jobs for artists, be very careful of how much time you spend head scratching, calculating costs and losing sleep over how much to discount. Settle on a figure that you're happy with and go for it. It's never the end of the world if you don't get a job and sometimes it can be a bullet dodged. If the sizes were any smaller than these I would highly recommend having a Cutting Optimisation software at hand to make cutting lists which very quickly helps to work out sheet quantities and how to cut materials for minimum wastage.

This is going on my office wall (in a white matt vinyl against white paint). I'll know it is there, precisely because no-one else can see it!
