Web Page Expiry / Server Timeouts / Login Session Timeouts

Hi J,

There are few functionality issues of the new forum software that are causing me problems, namely web page expiry, server timeouts, and login session timeouts.

Minor Issue - the forum (either version) has never ever acknowledged my requests to "Log me in automatically." (Before you ask, my PC allows cookies.) On the old version of the software, this wasn't a problem, as I could "park" on the Forum and dip in and out at leisure without having to log in again.

MAJOR ISSUE - now that the forum logs me out, I have lost several part-typed posts/PMs because, although it will return you to the reply screen after logging back in again, it does not hold any changes since the last preview. Also, while still logged in, because the server now treats previous views of a page as having expired, one cannot recover from posting glitches (e.g. server timeout on previews), because when one uses the back button to go back to the screen holding the input text, you get a "Web page expired" message, and the forced page reload results in your latest text (which could be the entire post!) going the way of the dodo. It makes for a very unfriendly user experience.

FWIW, if one's login session times out on vBulletin (which, to me, the latest version of php seems to be trying to emulate), and one then tries to preview one's post, one is asked to log back in. After logging in again, one is returned to the posting screen with no loss of data.

A "New Forum" plus:

It's good to see that the new forum softare will let you submit an edited post after a quick typo correction without bouncing the submission because it's "too soon to submit a new post."

This anally-retentive-but-slightly-distracted-at-times creature really appreciates this positive change! :D

If you are having login or logout problems, deleting board cookies may help.
