Acrylic glazing thickness advice wanted please.

Hi all,
I have a large oil canvas 1521 x 1015mm to frame with glazing as will be in a pub.
Only painted a month ago and owner wants spacers between it and glazing, so glazing will only be supported around edges.
How thick does the acrylic need to be so there is no bowing/sagging in it where has no support?
Thanks
Sarah

I would say 4mm to be sure.

I would go as thick as you can. There’s nothing worse than putting it all together and then it pops out of the spacer

I would say they need to be informed of how much off-gassing is likely to happen onto the surface of any glazing you use as it was only painted a month ago!
And 6mm minimum on that size as there is so little potential edge support and if you can increase the edge support with the use of a slip/flat slip etc then that might help.
Alternatively 4.4mm laminated glass would be an option.

@Tudor Rose out of interest where do you source 6mm UV acrylic? I've only been able to find 3mm so far...

Hi Justin. OP did not mention UV filtering specifically, but of course there is Optium Acrylic available at 6mm as well as 3mm and 4.5mm. Now yes it does come with a massive cost, but it is a possibility. Available from Wessex.
6mm acrylic is available in cheaper forms from other suppliers and Wessex also list a 5mm Clear Cast version if anyone wanted to go that route.
Most customers we've quoted prefer the 4.4mm laminated when compared to the Optium pricing as a more affordable option.
