Hi all,
I am looking at mounting a couple of items using plastic sheet fed through the mount board with spider legs. Just looking for suitable plastic sheet, and any tips and tricks, as this will be a first attempt.

Just looked through some old notes, the answer I was looking for is Melinex516/Mylar-D if anyone needs this in future. I have my notes from my course with framers equipment, but if anybody does have any further tips please let me know.

I did a step by step in this thread

viewtopic.php?t=11383

I use clear archival polyester from Preservation. Equipment Ltd

If I didn’t mention it in that thread It’s best on a roll as the curve helps apply a bit of pressure.

It looks like a follow up question may be is there anywhere that I can buy small amounts of this as I am more of a hobby framer, although at the moment this is picking up to where it may become more.

A quick google search shows various places that sell small sheets for crafting purposes. That might be a good way to start off.

The curve from a piece off a roll is not really important for small objects, but as you get busier a couple of rolls in different weights will be very useful, it’s incredibly versatile stuff.

It’s a shame we don’t have a framing supplier or two with a specialist range of conservation products, which could be included with a carriage-paid moulding (etc) order. PEL don’t do free shipping, regardless of quantity.
