Anyone got one of the De-rollers for flattening posters etc before mounting? If so are they worth the investment?

They work very well but can wreck older/brittle things.

I watched this video and thought “that’s just a glorified roller blind”. So I went to Dunelm, bought a roller blind going cheap as it had lost its fittings ……. and glorified it!

We're decidedly low tech when it comes to this.

We use the tail end of bubble wrap still attached to the tube. Place the curled print onto the bubble, with a sheet of acid free tissue or glassine, then roll it the opposite way it was initially. It works a treat. Can use hair bobbles to keep in place for a while if it was tightly rolled.

I use a cardboard packing tube. A wide diameter one is best for de-rolling stiffer paper.

I’d be wary of just using a tube/cylinder, especially if you’re rolling image-out.

As it’s not held in place by pressure along one end it can slip and scratch itself plus you can get flat spots if it becomes loose, which can make creases
A de-roller, which you could make from a strong tube - like a drain pipe for example, and a piece of wipe clean material, traps one end and rolls the paper up within that material so it doesn’t come in to contact with itself. Even pressure is maintained along the whole length too.

It may be as simple as just rolling it the other way on a tube in some cases or if you’re lucky, but if it was all the time there would be no need for these things.
