Morning! Hobbyist framer here, looking to learn!

I just wanted some advice on spacers when float mounting... it's my first time so please forgive any stupid questions.
What would my options be for keeping the glass away from the artwork in this instance? The frame rebate is 12mm.
I have been looking at 1.5mm EconoSpace spacers -- are these something I should invest in and keep 'in stock' - they seem pretty useful!
To cut foam/mountboard spacers this small seems quite tricky - or is this a good option too?

And then when it comes to attaching the artwork to the mat, I have been following a Rinaldin technique, passing the hinges through slots in the mat (screengrab of the technique below) - I don't know the name of this method, but am hoping it's still a good way of doing it?
Very open to any advice, tips, comments - thank you in advance.

'Nothing wrong with any of that.
Another way to float-mount the art would be to cut a piece of mountboard about 1cm smaller all around than the art-work.
Tape that piece to the back of the art using normal straight tabs of tape.
Then you can PVA that sandwich down onto the back board. This makes positioning much easier and gives the artwork more definition by raising it slightly above the backing.

Try looking at the paper wrapped spacers from Rose and Hollis. Use dabs of wood glue to hold them in place.
The Econospace has a self adhesive backing which will fail over time and on a large frame will drop and sag into the picture.

Econospace sticks to the glass, a very strong bond, plus, if you mitre it, it is unlikely to fail anyway, especially on smaller pieces. It is very expensive for what it is though and will never look as good as colour matched spacers you can make yourself.

Thin spacers may be tricky to make but they’re free if made from offcuts, and if you apply DS tape first and cut through it to make the spacers, it’s much less tricky. Use as much of that rebate as you can though.

I’ve watched the Rinaldin video (pass through hinges) and dislike it.

It’s fitted “blind” and there’s too much adhesive area, a single strip of tape is all you need for that “S hinges” - but search here for the “hedgehog method” there’s illustrated instructions and a video - it is quite elaborate, so in a nutshell, cut an aperture 1cm smaller than the art, hinge the art to it around the perimeter and fix it back in to the aperture it came out of!

I've watched a Lion video on float mounting which I think describes the technique both of you mention. Will try this!

And for the spacers - I'm going to try two cost-effective things first and see if I can get them to work for me - 1) a cheap obeche spacer from Wessex 2) DIY foam+matboard spacers.

Will report back how I get on (in a few weeks) in case helpful for others to see.
