I'm struggling to get my head around the importance of AI.
I know it has become very useful when looking things up. Instead of trawling through lots of websites, AI can bring up a useful summary of everything that is relevant to the question and in an instant.
But is that it?

There is some stuff that I just happen to know a fair bit about. Its to do with creating a glaze which will replicate the patina on grand old antique frames.
The sort we all see in museums and Nat, Trust houses but are fiendishly difficult to accurately replicate.

If I ask AI for help in this it just bounces back the usual dumb answer which is a summary of what other people think, and is just wrong.
So my conclusion is, that AI can only provide an answer from what is already out there on the web.
It has no critical thinking about the quality of its answers.

So what is the big deal?
Maybe its a threat to all the screen scribes out there doing what I call non-jobs.
What do those people actually do all day?

You're definitely missing something.

The fact is it has taken you a lifetime of learning and trial and error to get to that stage, and it's a fairly niche area of skill.
AI is constantly learning and evolving and it won't take long for it to reach that stage as well once it gets its hands on the right information.
It definitely does have critical thinking skills, but we only have access to more simplistic versions of AI.
There are quite a few jobs that have already been replaced by AI, some are on borrowed time, and then others are maybe a bit further down the line, but in theory there are no limits.
Take picture framing as an example; currently there are factories where a frame can be made with no human involvement, all you need is for the price of the equipment and controlling computers to come down in price and we could all be out of a job.
