Still a newie but getting there, have a coloured print that is several years old, came from Greece, nice picture but on looking across it someone has written on a seperate sheet of paper with a ball point pen and used the picture to lean on, does anyone know how to remove the tram lines??
Look forward to any suggestions, it isn't valuable !

Hmmmm...tricky. Not sure if it can be restored 100%. Might be able to lessen the effect a tad.
What sort of paper is it? If it's the shiney stuff then I don't think there is much hope.

Re: How to remove Impressions on picture
The print is on matt thick paper about 250g.
Re: How to remove Impressions on picture
I just tried a little exp of a piece of 90lb watercolour paper. Wrote hard with a ballpoint though a sheet of paper on top and then rubbed the impression with an agate burnisher though some silicone release paper. It did remove the writing, but it does tend to flatten the texture of the paper. You might get away with it if you do it very carefully and try to feather in the flat patch.
Good Luck.

Re: How to remove Impressions on picture
As it was old and mine have tried and failed miserably, have decided that the best thing is to light the fire with it as in this part of Cornwall it is B>>>>> cold and miserable.
Many thanks for the help.

Worth a try...some you win...
You could always put another sheet of paper on top and write 'bugger' all over with a biro.
At least it would look even.

I suppose it would be too ridiculous to suggest a paper conservator???
Re: How to remove Impressions on picture
You could try lightly dampening the paper and ironing the reverse. It works with dents in wood, and indentations in mountboard. The steam causes the fibres to swell and go back to their original position....sometimes.
