So....
Some people in the BBC deliberately set out to decieve us regarding various bogus competitions.
They are caught out.
The BBC are fined £400k
This fine is paid by us, the licence payers
The fine ends up in the treasury.
The culprits keep their jobs (correct me if I am wrong)
BBC life carries on as usual...
Cosy !!

I'm fine with it - well, not the licence fee, don't get me started on that!
But this meant that for a few months 'Popmaster' on the Ken Bruce show (Which I listen to on headphones in a lead lined bunker with copyright-free white noise playing outside it - just in case) became 'Celebrity Popmaster' and that was really good.
It also meant a temporary end to those really annoying late night phone in quiz cons on TV that are starting to creep back now.
Some of these phone ins really annoy me - choose from 3 answers to a question - like "If you had a toothache, who would you make an appointment with.
A Plumber
A Dentist
A Picture Framer.
Why not just say 'Look - whoever we pul out of the hat first wins - it's £5 a go - right?"
Well, probably because that comes under some sort of gambling law made by Rupert the 15th in 606 AD.

My main annoyance with the BBC is that pillock Dom. If I hear one more customer tell me that Dom says I should ask for discount I will slap them with the Radio Times. It is usually independant shops that he targets to get discounts - the very sector that is under massive commercial pressure from all sides to try to stay afloat and we have this pillock, paid for by our taxes, telling our customers to screw our profits!
During his last series I emailed him and asked if he could get me a discount on my TV license fee, funnily enough I did not receive a reply!
Otherwise I like the BBC,
RobinC

Too right.

I know why they do it. In law they are not allowed to run games of pure chance. For a legal contest there must be an element of skill. I often wonder if people actually phone in with the wrong answer.

I too suffer from this and totally empathise with you. Why the hell should i give a discount on something i worked hard to create? Are my suppliers going to discount my supplies to enable me to discount my prices? Erm NO! With the state of the gloomy economy they should ban programmes like these! As a small independant i can't afford to knock money off for all and sundry. Only way i see around it is increase all my prices by 10% then anyone who asks can gladly have a 10% discount!
