Nielsen ClearColour Plus UV
anyone use this glass?
we are *tempted* to offer it as a new level of glass.
but our Nielsen rep won't give us a free demonstrator to sell it and are insisting we have to buy 4 sheets of glass before we get the demo.
how do you find it for cutting and storage? does it sell well?

Re: Nielsen ClearColour Plus UV
Frankly, until you mentioned that N-B had such glass, I wasn’t aware of it, so, of course, we haven’t used it.
But, having to buy the product before you get a display seems like a backasswards way of doing business. If you can’t see it, you can’t sell it.
If they don’t have enough confidence in their product to give you a demo, then I’d probably stay away from it.
That, and I’d be pretty peeved off with the rep.

This doesn't sound like the Nielsen I know!
They are the most generous supplier I have when it comes to samples - moulding corners at no charge - aluminium (yes Bill - I spelled that right!) ones come with a metal rod with clip-on plastic corners to display them on - free - and my three keys display shadowbox came free as well - don't remember if I was already using the glass mind.
All I'd say is that if you see a rep you must be established with them and giving you that display shadowbox should be no big deal.
Anyway - yes I use it - a lot. The disadvantage over TruVu musem glass is only 90% UV protection, the advantage is zero colour shift - it's 'waterwhite' - and no TruVu 'ripple' either.
Glass and Mirror sell the exact same product (made by Flabeg) Under the name of 'G&M Museum' - price difference is negligible - and they can be pitted against each other.
G&M's comes in packs of 5 - Nielsen's comes in packs of 4 - so, less outlay. G&M will split a box though - but then you'll find evidence of handling - if you buy it by the box you'll rarely have to clean a fresh sheet. After that it depends on how carefully you handle and store offcuts.
Dunno if G&M deliver to your area - think they do.
I do remember one POS thing I had some outlay for though - the bevelled accents display caddy - think I had to buy 10 boxes of bevelled accents to get that free - so maybe they have the same policy with the keys shadowbox. G&M don't have such a shadowbox - they just give you 3 bits of glass (plain 'museum' and NR)sandwiched between two mounts - for you to lay over customers' artwork. Not as effective.
In hindsight I wouldn't have an issue buying the glass first - I made more of my own displays later anyway and don't really need theirs now - it gets minging too - 3 pieces of glass - unsealed over a black background -
dust gets in very easy.

Re: Nielsen ClearColour Plus UV
How do they deliver it? Is it only available if you are on a NB van route, or do they send it by courier?
I seem to remember hearing somewhere that it's a good price too!

it comes on a special pallet, which gets returned to the courier

Re: Nielsen ClearColour Plus UV
I think that special pallet deal would put me off - but then I'm on both Nielsen and Glass & Mirror's van route - but if I was not on either then I simply could not get it from Glass & Mirror, as far as I am aware they only deliver glass, or maybe anything at all, by their own vans/lorries?
As for the price - I doubt you'd get the best via courier - if you can get both companys' vans I think Glass & Mirror are cheapest - just ..... BUT theirs come in packs of 5 and Nielsen's come in fours. As the stuff comes from the same manufacturer I'm not sure how that works and actually I've never bought it from G&M for that very reason - less outlay. (Plus a C.O.D. account with G&M)

Cut to size is fine - but .....
The glass has now been handled - you'll have to clean it and this can be a pain. If you buy a box and handle it with cotton gloves, chances are you won't have to clean it at all. Handle the ofcuts with the same care and if and when you do have to clean it, use a PEL cloth and tap water sprayed on to the glass, with a PEL glass sray bottle (£1.99 if I remember right)
More profit, far more profit, if you buy full sheets, depending on your volume of course. Speculate to accumulate?
The first time I used this glass I bought it from G&M, they said it came in 'boxes' of two sheets - 36x48" - ish.
There was no 'box' - what they'd done was cut a huge sheet in half and they arrived between a couple of sheets of MDF - that was the 'box' - they were covered in marks and fingerprints and I've not used them since - Nielsen's come in nice boxes straight from the factory - apparently G&M's do too now, but as I said, it's in packs of five and I don't really want to find out if they have been handled or not, not at that price.
