Terracotta Wax

Post by Not your average framer »

As many may know Liberon's terracotta wax was discontinued about a year or two ago. Roboframer managed to track down a tin or two and kindly let me have one of them, (thanks John).

Of course, I assumed I would never be able to get any more, but while visiting my local traditional hardware shop, I discovered "Red tile wax", which looks and smells very similar to the Liberon stuff. This stuff is still a current product, so this may well be good news to some of us.

I haven't bought any as I still have some of the Liberon stuff left, so as yet it is untried. I can't see any reason why it should be any different to use, so maybe it's worth looking out for!

Most consumer and commercial wax preparations are made from one of several materials
bees wax
paraffin wax
carnauba wax
microcrystalian wax

You can always use one of those generic materials or a blend depending on your needs.

It's just another colour of liming wax.

That's an interesting idea - I'll have to try that.

I tried some liming wax once. To be frank I found it whole procedure very messy, not to mention hard work. I find white paint (the good old ripple is as good as anything) does to same job. Dilute it a bit, slap in on , wipe it off. Wait till dry and apply clear wax.
