Large PNG shields

Have a customer who has recently relocated in Brisbane after having spent 20 odd years in Papua New Guinea (PNG) - has a lot of bits and pieces he is slowly getting framed

He currently has 2 shields being restored by a conservator - sizes are approx 1500 x 600 x 80mm and could weigh upwards of 50kgs - in effect they are large pieces of trees with a bit of bark on one side along with some mud attachments for decorations - on the inner side there are two pieces of fabric attached to wrap around an arm

The conservator has basically recommended using a piece of ironbark timber as a base, cut a groove in that base for the shield to stand upright and then place an acrylic case of the shield

Our customer accepts that advice, but really wants to hang the items in a frame on his walls - any ideas??

Hi Ross

My advice would be to fix the shields to the wall first. Then build a frame (with no backing) that can be placed over the shields and attached directly to the wall.
