Glass gilding (verre eglomise)

Post by gesso »

I've been making mirrors this way for over ten years and it has proved very popular as a decorative effect for interiors.

Looks good. What materials are you using?

Plain silver leaf, gris leaf for the frame water gild as usual then distress, finally seal the reverse of the glass with black paint

There is another way that I'm dying to try but the kit shown is about £150 so not just yet;

fascinating video on silvering :clap:

Very nice work on the mirror and frame gesso, do you use gelatin to adhere the silver to the glass or something else? I like the frame profile who is it from?

Hi just use the usual gilder's liquor slightly less rsg in there with a little isopropyl alc as a wetting agent( i tried brandy but for some reason it kept evapourating :drunk:

the frame profile I had made up to do a mirror for the editor of house & garden and have used on a few occasions since
