Framing Food

Someone has asked me to frame some individual chocolates - don't ask! Has anyone had any experience in preserving food for framing; can I use a matt varnish to coat the chocolates or is there a better way? I've also searched the interweb for fake chocolates as a back up plan if I get hungry in the workshop  Does anyone remeber those fidge magnets which look like hazelnut swirls or am I just dreaming my 70's childhood!!!?

My guess is that framing chocolate would be a very short term proposition. It is bound to degrade quite rapidly.

Have you tried looking in joke shops, party supplies, theatrical prop suppliers, etc. for a substitute?
