Glue

Post by iantheframer »

If you hand finish and glue the mitres one of the problems often referred to is the glue residue spoiling the finish. This glue doesn’t solve that problem in itself, but it fluoresces under uv light so you can at least tell if it is present on the surface and make more effort to remove it

Hide glue has the delightfull property of not adhering to the finish. I switched to exclusively hide glue, not for that reason, as I seldom work with pre-finished, but the ability to reglue a broken joint. The Titebond type alphatic resin glues won't bond well to dried glue.

If you're finishing after glue up, you do need to not slobber, as the hide glue will block stains and finish.

I find keeping a damp cloth around negates the need for anything expensive.
