Greetings all

Have recently converted to using gummed tape for all my frames and come up against potential problem

Experimented yesterday to explore suspiscions and concluded that gummed paper dont like to stick very well to the art baq conservation that i use. It was stuck but didnt put up much of a fight when i tried to peel it off
I use art baq conservation for every thing as it has the integral acid free barrier paper, degree of moisture resistance and is slightly bowed, so to my mind, is a good all rounder. Is there an equal or better spec product that does the same but that the tape sticks to? I want to avoid having different backing boards kicking around and i really dont want to have to put an additional board in every frame to protect art, and i like to keep the back of the frame brown, not white

We use the same boards as you do plus Corri Mk 3 with the Aqua barrier.

Likewise we tried and tested the gummed tape, with exactly the same results as you. It doesnt work !!

Have reverted back to ECO +25 SA tape. Yes it is more expensive per roll, that is passed on to the customer.
It is brown on brown and does give a nice neat appearance, yet it does need to be burnished down.

We have not had any problems with this tape in the years that we have been using it. Any reworks then as posted in another thread, the gentle use of a Hot Air gun will soften the glue enough to enable the tape to be pulled off in one go. Some residue is left on the frame and backing but this is covered up by the application of new tape when the work is completed.

I find the trick with gummed paper is to get it VERY wet and smooth it down VERY FIRMLY.

Let the suction hold it in place while it shrinks and dries out.

I use art bak con. and lion's standard gummed tape - works fine for me!

I agree with WelshFramer. I used to have exactly the same problem with gummed tape on the Art-Bak Conservation board I use...solution - PLENTY of water on the tape and press down firmly. If anything, I think the gummed tape is the best solution as it sticks well and stays in place if wetted properly, but also peels off easily and cleanly from the board if necessary, which makes it the ideal 'reversible' solution to taping the back of the picture.
