frame with no mount

Hey guys

I have been asked to print and frame an exhibition of fine art photo prints

my client has picked a nice black ash moulding, but has asked for no window mount

I can mount the prints on a board etc, but unsure how to put in the frame and keep it away from the glass

the first idea i had was to use strips of black core mountboard the width of the rebate

i thought i would ask how other people would do it

Many options available:
You could use Mountboard.
Then again why not 3mm foamboard. Easily painted with Black acrylic.

Both available in Clear, White or Black.

You can get black/black core mountboard - no need to paint, but econospace is better as it sticks to the glass and is stronger than foam board - more expensive but convenient and purpose-made. Skinny strips of foamboard are easily crushed/bent, not to mention tricky to cut. If you go for strips of board, don't depend on just double sided tape, use PVA with just a few dabs of double sided tape to hold it while the glue dries.

Another problem with board spacers is that they cannot exert pressure on the glass as they are stuck to the rebate - the glass can rattle about - won't happen with econospace (or framespace).

that frame space is very cool, might try that although might have problems with delivery etc as i need it for next week and i am in ireland etc

My standard reply to this request is "Don't you want them to look great?"

Photographers down here are notorious for wanting their photos framed in some dopey fashion, because they have no understanding of framing design. Some seem to think they are the world's greatest authority on everything!

I often wonder how they would react if we framers started to tell them how to take photos - standing on their heads with the lens cover partly removed?
