Hi all,

I plan to make my own chevrons, as up to now I've just been displaying the short lengths to my clients.

I'd like to get a staple gun so I can secure the velcro on the back of said chevrons - has anyone any suggestions?

I'm not looking for a pneumatic one and it must be man enough to pin ash and minerva too.

Whether I can get a gun that's not pneumatic I don't know - failing that it will have to be nails I guess.

Have you tried the stick on velcro chevrons from Lion?

No, not tried them but was going to make a variation on those with the velcro that I already have.

The chevron samples I've had from Lion in the past have been stapled where the velcro is too.

I did all my chevrons with a Rapesco 853, its basic but does the job. I think I got it from Lion. They don't sell this model anymore, and have replaced it with another make.
I found that on oak and ash frames the staples would need a whack with a hammer. I would also staple the self adhesive velcro.

I've only ever used a hand stapler (Rapid I think...). It's as powerful as you need for most jobs. The main advantage of a puematic one is more to do with being less wearing on the hands for continous or prolonged use.

Lion have two on P95 of the current cat. I'd go for the bigger one.

You are right to not rely on the adhesive on the velcro. The weight of the chevron will peel it off eventually. Might take years, but it will.

btw. If you have the space, don't be mean with the chrevron sizes. 16" along each leg is a nice size.

I bought a good quality stapler from "STAPLES" and it is fine, I use it for stapling canvas, surface mounted backing board, wooden stripwood when building out the back of a frame (plus PVA). I think it probably cost about £20 and takes up to 12mm deep staples, by about the same width
Stick on velcro not good on heavier chevrons but fine on light ones, ie, up to 20mm. Lion sell stick on velcro on a roll, quite a large roll it is too!!

An excellent product, with adjustable settings for hard or soft wood. We now have two so there is no arguments. If you get one make sure you get a spare battery and charger if it doesn't already have it bundled with it.

Thanks all - I think I'll go for a Bosch as Birdman says. The fact that it does a lot more than just my chevron application bodes well too.

I went for a Tacwise Z3-53 in the end from my local B&Q and considering it only cost £5 it's a great bit of kit.

Tacwise are Rapesco and B&Q have a wide range of the Tacwise range - it's even good in ash and only needs tapping home a wee bit.
