Backing tape problem.

Guy's looking for advice,
The backing tape that I use seems to bubble up after a few days. Could I be applying it to tightly or could the supplier be suppling cheap tape?

Once I apply it to the backing board I use a roller to apply presure all over the tape.

Should I use a preffered brand?

Hi Drew,

This is the sort of problem associated with masking tape. The adhesive dries out and it eventually falls off. I suspect the problem is the tape.

I use a self adhesive Kraft paper backing tape and just rub it down with my thumb. Never had a problem.

Hi Mick,
Thanks for the advice. I'll look at using the Kraft tape. I now know why the supplier pointed me to the masking tape when I asked for hinging tape also! They probably don't realise the purpose behind it.

Hi Drew,
Masking tape has no place in framing.
I have come across it used for mounting, and backing, on cheap pictures sold in my local market. They are falling apart as the guy is selling them.

There is some backing tape on the market that has a non stick backing. I don't like it as it is difficult to get neat corners as it doesn't stick to itself.

that stuff is very good for emafyl (plastic) which the wet-it type tapes wont stick to, but the kraft tape is good for everything else -you'll notice it at the end of the year, too. your tape bill will be about a quarter of what it is now
