I have been asked to frame four large laminated maps in such a way that pins can be inserted to mark towns and villages etc.Any ideas how I might do this? Thanks.

never done it, but what about mounting it on a cork board, then framing without glass

you could cold press it down to the cork

i have also used insulation board for this - available from hardware places like travis perkins ! check it out .its great for pinning things to.

I have done it with regular glass over the map (spacer between the glass and laminated map). A permanent marker was used on the glass. To remove it they simply scrape it off with a razor blade. Temporary marker can also be used that will just wipe off with a paper towel.

Previously we have glued the laminated map to sundela notice board using PVA

I sandpaper the back of the laminated map to help the PVA bond to it.

If they are going to be pulling the pins out and moving them make sure they know the map will not heal and the insulation board would be best to use. I am not sure if you have any board from Gelman Brothers from GIlman CT in the USA. THey offer a "Magnet Receptive" board. You could nount the map on it and then use magnets on this. THat way if they plan on moving the pins you would use magnets instead and not leave holes from the pin.
