This frame was something of an experiment, but I confess to be quite chuffed with it. The original remit from the client was for a coppery gold like one I had done before, but I couldn't remember exactly how I did the one before. Anyhow, I had a large frame nearly the right size that belonged to the same client that was in for repair. (Don't stick blutack to gold leaf.

). I couldn't touch it up, so I was due to refinish the whole thing. So I took this frame, removed the existing liner and chopped down about an inch. I used the back of the frame as the face (it was bare wood) and planed off most of the rebate. Added a very narrow hockey stick to form another rebate for the new narrower bevelled liner. The moulding itself is about 4 1/4" wide and
just fitted in the Morso.
Next I covered the whole face with a thick coat of ripple paint (tinted with Burnt Umber powder pigment). Stood in the middle and rotated while using a comb to add the radiating texture. When that was dry I gave the whole thing a coat of dark brown. I got some copper gold powder which was just the right colour (I thought), but it seemed to loose it's metallic lustre when mixed with varnish and came out a a bit manky. Eventually I gave it a going over with a very pale gold, which combined with the manky undercoat produced the required effect.
Looks a bit like it's wrapped in fabric.
