High end mouldings

Post by Roboframer »

Do you know what a closed corner frame is? I didn't until I looked at American websites.

Also at The Spring Fair there were no REAL class mouldings, no-one specialising in the highest quality gilded stuff. There's tons of it in the States, mostly from Italy, and we're a bit clser to Italy than the States. Anyone know of any good suppliers for posh stuff in UK - otherwise I'm off to Atlanta to see what's what. In fact I think I'll go anyway!

Here's what I'm after, this is a framer's website, not a supplier.

Ashwortth and Thompson do a fairly good range of "closed corner" frames. I have always regarded the term to mean a bespoke frame thats finished after its joined - this can take in a lot of possibilities from ornate to simply stained - you display samples as a finished corner.

You will find that most of the major suppliers have a high end, water guilded, range of mouldings - and they are wonderfully expensive. Byron - when it first started trading had a stunning range of Italian mouldings that were just that bit different to everything else - Sadly they couldnt seem to make it work - I suspect we are very conservative in our tastes.

I generally find that whatever happens in the American market happens here some time later and its worth getting Picture Framing Magazine just to see how the American trends are going.

Just a small correction…..

America Choice is run by Cornel (Why Not) on the US Grumble.

America Choice is a supplier to the trade they are not a framing shop,…….They manufacture in Romania and ship to the US very successfully…….I suspect that there should be no problem getting these frames in the UK.

We make 'closed corner' frames here in the UK, mainly supplying picture dealers. I'd very much like to market our frames by supplying other framers, even though in the past that has rarely happened. I'd welcome your views.
