Mounting Raised Embroidery

Hi

My customer wants me to frame her piece of embroidery, but she wants it padded (Raised) from behind. Can anyone advise me as to how best to go about this.

What padding material do I use and how do I secure the edges of the embroidery to the back panel.

Have a look a Mal Reynolds methods of framing fabric pieces he is a real master at this sort of framing.

The padding is called batting or wadding you can get a pure grade from PEL but depending on the item you are framing what you can get in your nearest fabric shop may do.

If using a window mount, only pad the aperture, less a fraction, this will give a 'cushioned' look - the thicker the wadding the more effect - then you'll need to make sure you don't lose that effect by having the glass against it.

As for securing - as long as you have enough spare fabric around the piece then lace it, if you don't have enough spare fabric then extensions could be sewn on.
