Normally for my shop, Wimbledon fortnight is not helpful to business and true to form things were continuing as previous years, until yesterday when our local electricity sub-station developed a fault and sent a massive voltage surge into homes and business premises. This has blown up large amounts of electrical equipment, including televisions, internet routers, computers, etc.

As a direct result we have seen an increase in trade, while the locals are waiting to have their televisions replaced. Not only can they not watch television, but people are looking in their cupboards for things which they don't normally use, (except when other things are not working) and are finding old pictures needing reframing or a broken glass replaced.

Even more amazing than that, people are coming in to collect their finished orders, instead of waiting until Wimbledon fortnight is over.

Just left to sabotage sub station. I say it every year - Might as well take our holidays on Wimbledon fortnight, never do it.

For the last 15 years I have taken the whole of August off . . . . I don't honestly think I miss much.

But I come back from holiday full of enthusiasm for the year ahead (I left school 30 years ago, but I still see September as the beginning of the new year!)

and due to the power cut....in 9 months time they will all have photos of the their newborns to frame too!
