stickers on the backs of photographs

Post by kev@frames »

Pet gripe of the week-

Self adhesive stickers on the backs of photos -not only some photographers and press agencies do it, but nowadays Im getting photos supplied to the public from a well known museum, and I know they are big on archival methods and conservation because they always insist on museum board. Ive even been shown round by the curator and marvelled at his knowledge of all things to do with paper conservation.
you'd think it'd extend to the retail products they sell to their visitors...
so whats the routine? douse the photo in solvent and peel the things off ? you cant dry mount it, you cant really do much with it once they've done this. and its always in the middle.... sigh.

im glad I got that off my chest.

A heat gun sometimes helps with the removal of these labels.

I suppose that if all framers were to charge for the removal of these items and made customers aware of the additional cost, perhaps the photographers would begin to get a bit of negative feedback on this practice.

Has the FATG made any representations to the photographer's professional bodies in this regard?
