GM Art-Foam from Wessex, does anyone use it ?

I'm about to place an order for some glass from Wessex and I was thinking about ordering some GM Art-Foam which is described as a "High Quality Conservation foam board, with cream(non-bleached) paper liners". I like that it's conservation and also that it's actually cheaper than their standard 3 and 5mm Foam Core, I wonder what the catch is ?
I want to be able to drymount onto it in my Hotpress, does anyone on the Forum use this in preference to normal Foam Core, I'd appreciate a recommendation.
Thanks,
Adam/Bagpuss

I use lots of it and buy it because it's cheap, not too fussed about its conservation properties as I use it mostly for spacers and making mount fillips flush.
If drymounting is what you want it for you needn't be too fussed about its conservation properties either, just it's performance. I can tell you it's as good as any foam board for cold dry mounting but I've never tried it with heat.

Its OK with heat. although we use a traditional hot press, not a vacuum. There may be some difference.

I use it a lot, never had any problems and not noticed any difference to other foam cores, includes drymounting.

I had a quick look for this foamboard in the Wessex catalog, but could not find it
what page is it on, or whats the reference number?
Thanks
Richard

I order it from Glass & Mirror, but not by any reference. It must have one but I just ask for art foam, I'm not sure why Wessex and G&M are still kept looking like two separate companies with different ref no's and prices for the same things, but I hope it stays that way because I find the Wessex catalogue/price list a bit daunting/bewildering.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts on this, I don't have a Wessex catalogue but it can be found in the G&M one page 16, GM Art-Foam, available in 3 and 5 mm and are supplied in size 1525 x 1016 and a whopping 2440 x 1220 for the 5mm sheets. I think I used to use this years ago as it was good value and conservation quality, I'm pleased that Steve Goodhall at Hotpress gave it the thumbs up.
cheers,

This sounds interesting, but as far as I can tell this is not listed in the Wessex catalogue. Wessex only have a 5mm conservation foamboard in their catalogue, but I don't think it is the same product.
I'm on a Wessex delivery van route, but I'm not sure if I can get GM items via the Wessex van. If the price is right, perhaps I can get it sent by carrier
Can someone tell me the prices for GM Art-foam and some contact details for GM so I can check it out.
Thanks in anticipation,
Mark

Hi John,
Thanks for the info. It's sounds like a good deal, so I'm gonna try some!
