Interesting project

Post by kev@frames »

Thought you peeps might be interested in one of these non-run-of-the-mill jobs so here was an interesting project for a customer we did today, or parts of it:

Image
Excellent design and layout supplied by the customer. All boards used are Slater Harrison black core.

Backing mount textured white with black core into which we cut a v grooved "brick" effect set up on Wizard Mat Designer v5.31. The bricks were slighty "nudged" offset to make them a little more irregular, and cut as v-grooves with "merge openings" applied. 4mm foamcore attached by PVA to the back of this to make it rigid. .A double mount with three apertures was cut from black/black core, and red/black core boards and spaced with 8mm ply (canvas stretcher bracing bars) treated with PVA as an acid barrier, mitred glued and pinned both sides in Alfamacchine underpinner with 11mm powertwist wedges stacked 3 deep on each side then painted black, and attached to the boards with pva hot melt.
Th v-grooving for the brick effect came out pretty well, we thought. Now if only my builder could manage pointing like that ;)

(The lettering as requested cut from a bitmap supplied by the customer using Roland ST vinyl plotter)

1.5 hours  and quarter of an hour with a putty rubber cleaning the black gunk off the board from the v groove debris that the Wizard kindly smeared all over the board.

edited to addL:
oh, and in case you are curious, it priced up retail at £150 framed, with styrene glazing, and £10 for a cold cathode light option, although this customer did get a sunstantial discount on that as this one was a "project".

Nice to do something different once in a while. I still have not got round to that japanese wedding kimono ;)
