Business rates holiday for small businesses

It was very nice to discover that I won't be paying any business rates for the next year. I'm told that this is a govenment scheme and applies to the whole country.

Apparently not every business will qualify for this as there are criteria to meet, but it may be worth asking the question of your local authority if you are a small business and have not been notified about this yet.

NYAF, you are one of the lucky ones.
To Clarify:
The new levels of relief will be available for 12 months from 1 Oct 2010 to 30 Sept 2011.
Eligible ratepayers will pay no rat5e on properties with rateable values up to £6000, with tapered relief of between 100% and 0% for properties with rateable values between £6001 and £12000.

Do you know if that would apply if I took out a lease in (January) that period? It would be nice to get the first 9 months rate free.

Don't see why not but why not check with the local authority.
