british/polish medals

Post by mikeysaling »

This frame contains the medals and insignia of one of the brave polish soldiers that fought with us during ww2

Ludwik Kowalski had an interesting life - his polish medals give a clue to what he went through as a young man.

english medals - 39/45 star; italy star; defence medal; 39/45 war medal

polish medals - 39/45 war medal; cross of merit; monte casino; polish forces in the west cross; cross of the deported to siberia; victory and freedom medal.

Great looking set Mikey. Guess he went up through Italy and into France including Monte Casino! Poor sod goes back to Poland and is sent to Siberia, hope he survived. Like the look of the Polish medals makes ours look a bit tame.

actually the polish medals (compared to the english) are rather insubstantial but do have fine detail - should have taken close ups really! Ludwik K did in fact settle in buckinghamsire after the war and this frame is for his family.
