Too long a day!
I've turned a moulding on its back to use as a floater frame. As I now know, you cannot just add the width of the back when setting up the morso because you end up with a frame too darn big.
HOW! do you do that Bunty.

Thanks very much Chris, I just couldn't compute. Luckily I'd just done the 2 L's so was able to separate the lengths, recut and rejoin without the loss of any moulding. 1st one I've done. I made the frame 3mm smaller than my mounted photo print and then cut to size to fit inside the floater frame. Would the
better way be to make the frame to fit exactly round the print?
Very pleased with the end result though.

Or you can mark the inside with a pencil to the length required cut slightly oversize, trim back and when happy set the stop to make sure you cut the second length precisely the same.

I mount onto 6mm MDF so the trim to fit option isn't viable. I find the foamcore dents too easily. Foamex is only 5mm and it sits too low in the frame... 6mm is just right.
I tend to over cut by a mm or 2 and then 'shave' a bit off to get it spot on. Second cut is now set, even better on a square. Repeat for the other side if different
A bit of a flaff but the extra couple of minutes gets the image panel as tight as tight. I think they look odd with a mm or 2 gap.

Interesting variations. I'm using Hot Press display board as my substrate, and have packed out the rebate depth with glued strips to bring the image forward. Like you Chris I prefer no gap but this is part because I think it's perhaps slightly easier to fit tight rather than have a perfect gap.
I've another one to do and I think I'll have a practice at trimming to size in the fletcher mount cutter but leaving a bit more width to cut off.

I stick down to an oversized piece 5mm foamboard then overlaminate and trim back carefully. The foam board is over sized because the hotpress pinches down the edges.

I stick down the foam board with PVA and hold in place with mountboard offcuts and handy wrap while it dries. Did once used double sided tape but had a customer position one over a radiator and the image fell out!
