I have just started using BBEst and trying to get my prices configured consistently. I have set up (for example) a piece of 20x16 speciality glass at £31.00 + £3.00 with wasteage at 30%.

In theory, if I then price a 20x16 frame, the glass element should be (£31.00+£3.00)+30% = £44.20. However, BBEst comes up with £55.20. Any ideas why?

The program applies your waste factor to each cut. So when calculating the waste for a linear element like the frame the wastage is calculated by applying the waste factor to the length. However, if the frame element is two dimensional, such as glass or mountboard, the program assumes that there will be waste when cutting the height, and again when cutting the width.

The formula for pricing glass in your example would be:-
(£31 x 1.30 x 1.30) + £3.00
