Hi John, I thought I would reply to you via PM just to say thank you for
your advice on matching the paterns. I am South African but lived in the UK
for 29 years where I was a fireman until my retirement 4 years ago. We came
over to South Africa for 3 months and fell in love with a old cottage in a
small village about 3 hours from Cape Town that is full of artist and no
framer. Having had a morso in england and doing photography and
canvasbonding combined with being members of the northern craft guild, I got
involved in framing and was guided by a very good friend of mine who was a
FATG member. He sadly died a few years ago. I did study the sylibus and very
nearly sat the exam.
I now have a morso as well as a alphamachine and of course my ademco hardbed
press which nobody in the village has ever seen. They are absolutely amased
when I show them the end results....just need to get hold of some double
sided film again from hot press. I have been framing for about 10 years but
strangely never ever used embossed patern mouldings as I always used swept
frames for my canvas bonded jobs. I am OK with multi mounts/box frames and
mount cutting. We also dry flowers in gell as well as press flowers and then
heatseal and bond them on satin and then on canvas, some of our work was
published in the craftsman magazine in 2003. This also is a first for the
folks in this village....only thing is the majority of them are retired folk
and they pretend they have no money. John....I have wrecked my little brain
trying to remember where I saw you site......when I do I will let you know
and in the meantime.....THANKS AGAIN>
Carel
PS I have found a firm in Cape Town that manufactures blades....they said
that if you bring your morso blades in then they will make you some. The
chap also said that contrary to the advice from morso not to grind the front
edge of the blades, they have done this on a number of occasins and by
filing the holes in the blades with a round file to give you more play, they
do work fine. He also told me that they only grind flat and not hollow and
that this also works fine....ever heard of this????? Regards
