HOTPRESS HELL !!

Post by Bagpuss »

For the first time ever, I decided to flatten out a couple off rolled up prints in the Hotpress, face down .....
BIG MISTAKE ! I laid them out on a scrap bit of White Display Board and heated / pressed them for 5 minutes.
When I opened the lid my heart sank, the prints had stuck to the board :(
You can see from the photo below the print had transferred to the board...
The only saving grace was that they didn't belong to a customer, I had bought them for myself, that was a close one  Must remember that in future...

I had a similar mishap a couple of days back.

Being a bit mean I have been saving up some offcuts of dry mount tissue to use on smaller jobs. So I had a 14 x 11 photo to stick down and there was a piece of tissue just the right size with a few little wrinkles but I thought no problem they will flatten out in the press.

WRONG!!! Left creases in the photo. Luckily it was a photo I had got printed by an online lab so I got another one sent.

Lesson learnt I have scrapped all the bits that were saved up.

We've all done similar.

It does no harm to get a reminder now and then that things can go extremely pear-shaped when dry-mounting is involved.

I don't own a press of any sort but I'm guessing you should've used a silicone release film?

Maybe trip to this place in Utah would help too.

OUCH 2 !!!

You can use your offcuts - but if they are a bit wrinkly simply press the tissue to board without the image - but with silicone release on top - after a couple of minutes - inspect the tissued board & if the wrinkles have gone - add the picture & press again - job done!!!

Yes, I thought about that but unfortunately after the event.

Thank goodness for DS Colour Labs, 87p for a 14 x 11 photo didn't hurt too much!
