Water gilded,punched design, cassetta frame

The frame was made up on a half lap base, then sight and back edge were added. Usual procedure for gessoing though a softer mix was used for the flat. The red bole sight & back edges were burnished before applying the gold leaf, the flat was left matt. Design was drawn to scale and transferred to the flat. The design was then punched into the gesso ground including the background. Light distressing with tone was the final finish. Made for two oil portraits.
