Hi all,
Anyone know where I can get wide(say 2 1/2") flat matt black moulding on chop, pref with deepish rebate? The suppliers I've looked at who do the chop either don't have the wide profile I'm after, or (sensibly) can't guarantee that they can cut it without any chips or ragged edges.

Failing this, can anyone suggest a quick, practical way to invisibly mend chips on moulding like this - I've been through old threads and know this is a nightmare but I thought I'd double check before telling my client it's not a good idea and they should pick something else.

How deep do you want?

just enough to get a the usual mountcard sandwich, 2mm float and some modest spacers in, so nothing outrageous

do you know of such a moulding Mark?

Ashworth & Thompson and Frinton Mouldings do all of their ranges on chop.

Thanks J2M, I did look at A&T but they don't have the kind of wide moulding I'm after, and Frinton are part of Wessex who as you say will provide chop but as I explained in my original post won't guarantee to cut without chipping the gesso, in which case I may as well chip the gesso myself

I was assuming you wanted something much deeper than normal and was gonna suggest a handfinished option.

BTW, Rose and Hollis have a range of earth pigment paints, which are matt. The black paint in the range is absolutely dead matt.

interestingly, after I posted I had a go at heating a bit of the offending matt black moulding to try to soften the gesso a bit and it seemed to work quite well - not 100% perfect cut, but near enough
