Mounting equipment.

I think I’m finally going to get round to investing in some mounting equipment, as I’m finding that paper hinges and polyester film isn’t right for every job! Will probably rule out a vacuum press because of my budget and simply not having any room in my workshop, so that leaves a Jetmounter.

I have looked up info on previous posts but thought I would ask again to get the latest opinions.

Do you think I should go for the JM34 as it is only about £200 more than the JM26? I've read a lot about the JM26 on the FF but nothing about the JM34? A JM44 is too big and beyond my budget.

What can and can’t you mount on a Jetmounter? Will it mount photos (Fuji Crystal type paper) inkjet prints (both cotton rag and pearl papers and even inkjet canvas when stretching not possible) posters and what else?

What will I be missing out on if I don’t invest in a vacuum press? Thanks to Steve Goodall , I am in contact with a local framer who has a vacuum press so can always go to him for that sort of work but what won’t go through a Jetmounter?

jm34 is a good idea cos you can do a full sheet of mountboard

if you go to the hotpress website and download the products brouchure you will see a lot of the kinda stuff you can do

also they have a dvd which will show you whats possible

as for fuji prints, yep no probs, well depending on the type of the board you mount to

I'd say bigger is better - allows for growth. WRT what the jetmounter doesn't give you, you'll find MDF wrapping (should you Really want to) out of the question, and you'll miss out on heat.

The adhesive on the mounting (and particularly the laminates) works better at warmer temperatures - in the dead of winter (unless you have a toasty warm workshop), there is a risk of silvering with laminates - we preheat the print, laminate and carrier board (generally DiBond) on the press, and will sometimes lightly cook the mounted work, to fully cure the adhesives.

Just checking Richard that you are saying that more than 95% of what you mount goes through the Jetmounter? Always get confused with these symbols <> Suppose it wouldn't make sense to say less than 95% Also, what does WRT stand for? Probably another one of these when you tell me!

I have a Hotpress HGP 260 and I have to say I could probably easily manage with a Jetmounter and save space.
