Can anyone explain the correct process for putting a small window in a mount to add a title or few words for the print above. You see this kind of thing with things like military medals and awards. Do I;
- Cut the mount to size
- cut out the small window (using mountcutter stops or simply from pencil lines)
- then finally cut the large mountboard window for the print
Is there a preferred order for the above stages and if there are any tutorials anyone knows of out there it would be good to be pointed in the right direction. Thank you.
Ray

Hi Ray,
Download the instruction manual for the Ultimat Gold and have a look at section 6.4. The idea of putting a pencil cross in the fall out part is very useful, as it is easy to cut the wrong side of the pencil line and have your bevel face the wrong way. I usually mark the back in pencil for both windows and it doesn't really matter which you cut first.

Re: Small windows in mounts for titles
I would draw out both windows with a pencil to make sure it looks good, as stated previously put a X in the fallouts, I would cut the smaller one first, this will maintain the board integrity (less chance of bending it).
It is a good idea to weight the bottom other wise it will look a bit odd, once you get confidant doing this you will barely have to draw a line.

That's a good point about cutting the smaller aperture first.... always something new to learn

Thanks everybody I will finish this tomorrow. I also like the point about cutting the small aperture first.

We also used to mark the direction of cut with pencil arrows to ensure the bevel faced the right way and so you knew where you where if you got interrupted in the middle of cutting.

Your not wrong there David, I constantly try to improve and learn, and have picked up many tips from this forum.
