How about cutting a piece of foamboard, say 10mm thick, 30mm smaller than the artwork, bond this to the back-board and then use Velcro coins or similar to attach the piece to the foamboard. It can then be taken off to see the signature on the rear.

As for the panel - fresh out of ideas for anything you could stick to the back that would "vanish without trace" if removed - maybe you could bite the bullet & use a couple of strips of velcro - top & bottom - with 10mm foamboard with velcro underneath - it could be removed to show the sticker - but the velcro would remain on the panel...

I'd use pass-through hinges just like if it was on paper - just probably more of them and heavier weight.
The signature can either be photocopied and stuck on the back of the frame or you could cut an aperture in your mounting board to reveal it and back the frame with glass or acrylic

Not sure if 'seeing' the signature is necessary as it's for his mum, so she knows who it is but like the idea. Think I might photo the details and print a repro for the back. Doing this one for materials only ... Danny is the wifes cousin.
As for the hinges... good to see you back John! Want to give it a bit of space from the back so maybe mitretights 10mm foamboard route might be the way to go....
Not without opening up a copyright issue. Unless permission has been given you can't copy the image (or any part of it) and even if permission has been given I doubt that it covers a snapshot to be posted on a forum.

But seriously - there's a forum here called 'The good, the bad and the ugly' where we post work we have done etc - most will include artwork - has to really to show how the frame shows it off. Other forums like 'help' (how do I frame this) show artwork too. Most framers' websites show stuff they have framed - did they all get permission from artists/publishers etc? Doubt it.
I suppose anyone that owned the copyright to an image seeing it on a website might have a right to insist it was removed, but the main concern would be re-use for monetary gain, which isn't an issue on this forum and wouldn't be allowed.

Why not take a photo of the room the picture is in cunningly placing it somewhere where it can be clearly seen. I'm sure the BBC don't ask every shop on the high street for permission to use their logos when they do outside broadcasts.
I'd be very upset if my wife's cousin's mother sued me for copyright infringement. Assuming I had one.

No but all art work in their sets is hired from a company which pays the artist a royalty each time it is used they can't use anythingh which they don't have the rights to. Outside I think is different but you do see a lot of pixilation of logo's on channel 4.
Anyway how did this become an issue of copyright all I did was ask to see the painting.

Just me being over cautious
I'm a bit of a technical person (my wife says I have OCD issues...) I doubt very much if the artist would have issues with a snap of the art being displayed for the members of this forum, who are artists in their own right.
This project has now been completed. Thanks for all advice. Panel on 15mm 1"squares of foam board. Thought it wouldn't look right under glass so went for the eau natural look. Panel was painted with spray paints so tough as old boots!
