Weight of acrylic
Is there a significant difference in weight between 2mm glass and 3mm acrylic? I’ve got a customer who wants to use acrylic because they think it will be light and easier to hang (it’s an elderly couple and they’re not very agile for hanging pictures). I hardly ever use acrylic but I had a feeling that 3mm acrylic wasn’t all that light. The size is just under 1000mm.

Re: Weight of acrylic
Hi Rainbow,
according to the Wessex guide to glass https://issuu.com/chapter2design/docs/glass_catalogue 3mm acrylic is lighter than 2mm float glass
3.25kg/m2 for 3mm acrylic
5.5kg/m2 for 2mm glass

Re: Weight of acrylic
I generally think that you usually need thicker acrylic than glass, so using acrlic to save weight does not seem to save much. I always thought the usual reason for wanting acrlic was most of a safety issue. I have to admit that I've never looked up the relative weights, so I did not know how they actually compare.

Thank you for the replies. The Wessex data is interesting, that's more difference than I thought it would be.
