if you say something with enough conviction people will start believing you....

I am Suffolks No. 1 picture framer..... (make of that what you will :giggle: )

this guy will carry on making that claim until some one with some power tells him not to do it.

So I suggest do what he's doing... Make the same claim!

Amazing that this subject gets this much attention! :Slap:

But I too was drawn into this....and with the wonders of Google maps, I had to take a look at this establishment.... heck, if I was driving down the road, I certainly would have pulled in to check out a fellow framer's establishment, especially one that looked this interesting...
  • Nice looking area, with a pub on the other side of the road-about. Nice fields across the street and a petrol station next door. Looks like he has good parking and a sizeable working facility.
  • The signage from June 2011 at the top of this thread appears to be either newer than the Google street view...(could be older I suppose). I honestly think that the second lower sign takes away a bit from his main sign...perhaps he took it down. Too many tag lines going on, honestly.
  • Only 11 miles from the Manchester airport....no body has stopped by to say hello yet? You've got time for all these posts, but can't stop in for a visit? Keith Hewitt is very close to him (I'll bet he has stopped by)???
  • He's listed on a bunch of directories, but doesn't appear to have a website.
That's it...If I come over to Spring Fair in 2013, I'm definitely stopping by to say hello. :hi:

Hi John, ( The USA John)

Nice to see you posting :)
Sure I know Alan Holmes - many years ago we worked together on The LJ stand at Frame- O- Rama on those awful piers in New York. Alan invented the Mastermount tapes and LJ were the USA distributor. Think it was 1990.

This thread is no surprise - his business often crops up in conversation, as his signs are rather prominent on a busy junction and his" FINEST IN UK "claim does undoubtedly irritate local framers.

By the way its not a pub :giggle: on the other side of the road - I think what you have seen is a corner shop. The pub is at least 400 yards away ! :drink:

I have visited distributors and framers in 90 countries - no two are the same.

Ahhhh no wonder his name sounded so familar.

Sorry Keith, this might have been back in the 1980's that he first sold his Mastermount tapes to Juhl-Pacfic (Pre-LJ days). When they retired the line, I think he tried selling them on his own for awhile.

Interesting!

Things like this really makes me laugh. I've met lots, and I mean lots of this type of individual. One, that readily comes to mind... about four years ago who professed to tell me everything there is to know about gilding and how he had mastered the art. A few weeks later, this person invited me up T-North as I was also travelling further up to Edinburgh the same weekend and well!!! All I can say is...what was demonstrated to me, by him was just about reaching amateur level. On burnishing a simple gilded cushion moulding you could see the impression of the agate on the leaf like feint tram lines. I realised then, he was in his own league, I knew nothing about this sort of gilding. He was happy doing what he was doing and that's we're I left it.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm very envious of the chap. To have the whatsits to set up in a highly affluent area and market yourself so strongly that people will pay through the nose for a "superior" level of service is a brilliant strategy. To make your highly affluent customers book an appointment is even better. Good luck to the man.

Unfortunately I'm so old fashioned, I'm jabbing away at the keyboard with a quill with my default font set to copperplate. That means I still try and do an honest job at a fair price with very little bullsh1t. It's my parents fault I just can't help it.

Its not that affluent, close by but in a field next to a road junction, not exactly in the middle of Prestbury.

My mistake, I was thinking of a knightsbridge framer for some reason. I think I'll go and lay down now.
