What do you like/dislike doing the most? Up to three in each category.

1. Shirts (No problem taking the money though)

2. Dry mounting

3. Boxed canvas stretching

Like ...

1. Washlines - no-one seems to do 'em these days.

2. Lacing needlework

3. Invisibly - or more really 'inconspicuously' - mounting a 3-D object

(1 & 2 I can do sitting down, which probably has a lot to do with it)

I love doing dry mounting, but i do it every day

hate doing faffy jobs that take me time

oh and hate doing the admin

I am nowhere near the standard of many on here, but my favourite is cutting multi apertures (By hand)..time consuming but theraputic! Least favourite? cutting large mounts as I am limited as to space at the mo...and losing weight is not an option!

I like putting the strings on the back of frames as that means the job is finished.

Least Fav: Clearing all the chippings from the Morso.

I hate the super-gluing of Minerva type materials, I always have a panic,will I get the mitre positioned correctly before it grabs.

I dislike.....

Framing excessively large items. (People always moan about how much it costs and why does the frame moulding have to be so large).

Plastic moulding. (Yes, I do use them, but I still think they are carp).

Jobs for customers who want it yesterday, but you know won't come and collect it for ages, after it's been done!


I like....

Building up huge profiles made by stacking mouldings and seamlessly hand finishing them as one complete moulding. (Not easy to do and some times the profit does not always reflect the quality of the work, but it's really satisfying do to and I just love doing this sort of thing).

Cleaning and restoration work. (Particularly restoring anything which appears to be a lost cause. I'm well equiped for this sort of work and again find it so satisfying, especially when the customer sees the finished result).

Making frames and mounts to look old and in keeping with the age of the item framed. (I've always loved doing this and can enjoy looking around auction rooms studying what is is that makes old things look genuinely old).

I'm just finishing this job off - so here's another like - having a CMC to make things like this a doddle, plus a dislike - mounting each poxy card - took most of the morning - can't charge enough.

Dislike..................
Stretching tapestries or cross stitches, but Mrs D does these just about always because i don't have the patience. And keeping my work station tidy.

Nearly everyting else but a favourite is something challenging, like using an old frame to make a new frame for a period picture. We have a couple of Guys who bring this type of work in and I usually swear a lot while doing it but always like the finished article

Everything, from taking the order to the second before I take the wonga!

Oh! I wondered if it was some specific aspect of doing the job.

I used to struggle with framing shirts, but now I have my own method for doing them, which makes them much quicker, easier and more profitable to do. Bring 'em on, I say!

is it double glazed - can you read the backs?

Yes you can - I usually suggest that - but without a CMC I'd usually be suggesting photocopying the backs!

well done - done a few of these for the 'local' and saves a lot of 'discussion' if folk can read the backs ! I don't have a cmc so do a glass sandwich with mount in the middle - in fact did one today!!
